Dunia sains baru saja kehilangan sosok terbaiknya, Stephen Hawking. Ahli fisika teoritis legendaris ini meninggal dunia, Rabu (14/3) di kediamannya di Cambridge, Inggris.
Stephen Hawking meninggal pada usia 76 tahun. Professor yang meraih berbagai macam gelar di bidang fisika dan matematika ini meninggalkan ketiga anaknya, Lucy, Robert dan Timothy Hawking serta beberapa cucu yang ia cintai.
Selama hidupnya, Stephen Hawking sangat dikenal dengan berbagai teori fisika kuantem seperti kosmologi, gravitasi kuantem, lubang hitam hingga radiasi Hawking. Semua teorinya pun dipakai di berbagai bidang, terutama fisika dan astronomi.
Penyakit ALS (sklerosis lateral amiotrofik) yang menyerang nyantanya nggak menciutkan nyalinya untuk beradu berbagai argumen tentang alam semesta dan mendedikasikan hidupnya untuk ilmu pengetahuan.
