Old hotel good for a night!
We had a room on the ground floor. The room and attached bathroom/toilet is old. Air-conditioned works but drips water and some cover is missing. Bathroom is moldy and is very dated. Hot water works.
We got to Waisai one day earlier before our group tour of Raja Ampat. We spent our time exploring the surrounding area and for bird watching. Stay here if unavoidable. Do consider the homestays by the beach instead if the distance/remoteness isn't a problem!

relatively inexpensive
Wasai in Raja Ampat is an expensive place to stay compared to other parts of Indonesia. Hotel Maras Risen is ok, the rooms are quite spacious although run down. We had a working airconditioner - luxury. The staff spoke virtually no English and breakfast was very local - rice, fish and a smattering of vegetables.

Almost great
Still new still not completly finished - great location and great vallue for money!
They need to learn a bit about the hospitslity but this review is a great credit towards their learning process. Difficult really to complain about anything, all was on good level considering the price, Papuan smiles and friendliness made my days there and I will come back for sure!!!

Not ready for prime time
Someday, likely in 2016, this hotel will be finished and in proper order for business people, and tourists in transition to their diving/snorkeling accommodations. At present only the gleaming tile floors are complete throughout the 2 floors. They have a number of workers completing/refinishing the stucco walls and the bathrooms are very basic but include a hot shower, soap and shampoo.
Although our Agoda prepaid room called for an upper floor double, we were given a small clean double on the first floor that seemed to be the only room prepared. Anton, the nice young boss had his people try to keep the lobby clean, the water/coffee machine available. and provided a basic breakfast. He assisted in providing transport to the Raja Ampat Resort for a nice day of snorkeling/beach walking and a free Honda moped for the 2nd day to explore the newly paved roads of Waigeo Island.
This is a frontier town with new mosques/churches/roads/port/airport and in a state of rapid development. Everyone you come in contact with is nice, busy, and full of optimism for what their future holds. We are very happy to experience this environment even though this hotel should not have been open to guests. Luckily, Anton understood some English and tried to accommodate our basic needs.
Our 88 day trip plans were made 8 months ago and changes are happening in the Raja Ampat area at a rapid pace. We would make different hotel plans today after the acquired knowledge of these past 4 days, but we must move on to many more new destinations.
