I planned to stay for a weekend at the guesthouse, but left already after an hour or so. After 5 months of traveling in Asia I’m used to local accommodation and am aware of the fact that it is cheap, but this place was just not clean - especially the bathroom. The room was very dark as there was only 1 small window. I am sure the people that run it are nice and I could tell they made an effort to make the common space look nice. However, the location is quite depressing (very dirty street, traffic) and not really made for walking around. This goes for Medan in general, but think it is good to know. The rules say that smoking is not allowed, but people were still smoking in the common area unfortunately.
I stayed here for 6 weeks in July/Aug 2017 for about £3 per night. It is a guest house, not a hotel but it is comfortable, clean and has AC. The squatting toilet and bucket washing is fairly standard for Indonesia and works fine. Yes, there is no toilet paper and it takes a little getting used to washing your anus if you are from a western background. Buy bottled water for cleaning your teeth. There is plenty of food available in the street (again, standard stuff for Indonesia) and the housekeeper will do your laundry for you, although the return of your clean laundry can be a little unpredictable (again standard stuff for Indonesia!). If you want somewhere to sleep, wash and get your laundry done, it is great; if you're looking for bells and whistles you are going to be disappointed
It's a guest house with two rooms. We contacted them by email but that didn't came trough. So after a 6 hour drive we got to the place, which is in the middle of nowhere to hear the rooms were booked out. However after a few calls we ended up in a little school few hundred meters further where they put 2 mattresses on the floor for us for a cheap price.
The people were so friendly and helpful!! We were unlucky that the power went out but the people took good care of us.
We stayed there just for one night as our flight was very early in the morning. The tuk tuk drivers were not very well aware or this place but we found it since I remembered where it was on the map. We arrived after 6pm and very hungry - bad idea! It was a challenge to find something to eat around. Eventually, we walked down the busy main road being an apparent attraction for local people, which was not a problem. We went to a small shop to buy some water and the shop keeper called his whole family to pose for pictures with us ;)
We then ate some noodle soup bought from an old lady in a small garage-like warung.
About the guest house.
-very comfortable and clean bed
-close to airport
-bathroom is not pleasant at all..., dingy and without full walls. The sqatting toilet is smelly therefore making the whole room rather smelly.
Also, the owner asked if we were married, not sure what would happen if we were not.
